McCulloch Commemorates 100th Anniversary of the
“Great Falls Paper & Supply Company

Great Falls, MT - Secretary of State Linda McCulloch on Friday honored the Great Falls Paper & Supply Company with the Secretary of State’s Centennial Award in celebration of company’s century of existence in Montana.

Secretary McCulloch giving the Centennial Award to Mike Flaherty, the president and owner of the company, Great Falls Paper & Supply Company.“This award pays tribute to the Great Falls Paper & Supply Company, and its importance to the Great Falls community,” Secretary McCulloch said during the ceremony.

The Great Falls Paper & Supply Company first registered with the Secretary of State’s office on May 29, 1913. Secretary McCulloch commenced the event by joining Mike Flaherty, the president and owner of the company, in thanking the Great Falls Chamber of Commerce and various members of the community for their ongoing support over the years.

“It’s a huge honor to be a part of this festivity with all of you,” Secretary McCulloch said.  “It’s not every day that I get to enjoy a celebration in person.  Thank you Great Falls, what a celebration this is!”

The Great Falls Paper & Supply Company was founded by the Flaherty brothers who were sons of Irish immigrants and wanted to fulfill the American dream of owning their very own business. Due to the success of their business, the Flaherty family made strong ties within the Great Falls community.  In the 1930’s and 40’s the American public grew concerned about WWII, and the senior Flaherty brother successfully led the charge to advocate for a military base in Great Falls.  Malmstrom Air Force Base was built six miles east of Great Falls where it still stands today.

McCulloch launched the Centennial Project in 2010 to commemorate the momentous anniversary of businesses and organizations that first registered in Montana one hundred years ago, or more. A list of 2013 Centennial Award recipients can be found on the Secretary of State’s website at sos.mt.gov/Centennial.
