as Chief Deputy and Chief of Staff

Secretary of State Linda McCulloch with new Chief Deputy, Kathy BramerHELENA, MT – Montana Secretary of State Linda McCulloch today named Kathy Bramer as the new Chief Deputy Secretary of State. Bramer brings to the office than three decades of experience working with Montana state agencies, schools, businesses, and nonprofit organizations.

“I'm eager to work with Kathy again,” McCulloch said. “Her management experience and professional background will help me guarantee that the Secretary of State’s office continues to provide exceptional customer service and ensure that elections in Montana are fair, open, secure and accurate.”

Bramer previously served three years as Human Resources Director at the Department of Public Health and Human Services, supporting the HR needs of more than 3,000 staff and managers. Prior to her work at DPHHS, she worked for fourteen years at the Office of Public Instruction under Superintendents Linda McCulloch and Nancy Keenan. Her duties included managing agency HR and personnel needs, statewide K-12 equity and nondiscrimination programs, State Land Board issues, and numerous other special projects.

Bramer is replacing outgoing Chief Deputy and Chief of Staff Harper Lawson. Lawson informed McCulloch in October that he would be leaving the office at the end of 2011 to return to GMMB, the media consulting firm he worked for from 2000 to 2004. Bramer’s annual salary is $78,900.
