Linda McCulloch Welcomes Girls' State Legislature to the Capitol
Girls State is a Mock Legislative Session Sponsored by The American Legion
HELENA - Secretary of State Linda McCulloch on Wednesday welcomed the 2010 Girls' State Legislature to the State Capitol in Helena. In an inspiring speech, McCulloch encouraged the student body to continue learning about government, elections and citizenship.
McCulloch reminded the all-female audience, "Knowledge is power. By understanding how government works, by seeking the truth from every angle before casting your ballot, and by participating in your community, you can and will make a difference."
Girls' State is a national summer leadership program sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary for high school juniors and seniors. Program participants enjoy mock elections and a mock legislative session before shadowing their counterparts for part of the day.
McCulloch will host her counterpart, the 2010 Girls' State Secretary of State, at 2:00 p.m. in the Secretary of State's Office.
