(Helena) - Employees in the Secretary of State's Office are congratulating a co-worker this week for receiving one of the Helena community's highest student honors. Steve Dighans, a student intern from Helena High School, was recently recognized as a Distinguished Achiever by the Helena Education Foundation.
Dighans was nominated for the award based on his exceptional accomplishments in the technology field. He hopes to one day turn his lifelong interest into a career.
"Steve is a remarkable employee and an invaluable asset to our staff. Not only is he a great person to be around, he's smart and intuitive well beyond his years," said Secretary of State Linda McCulloch.
"He can handle anything that we throw at him," said Mark Van Alstyne, Manager of Technology Services at Secretary of State's Office. "No matter what it is, Steve digs right in and solves the issue. He's a great guy."
Lisa Cordingley, Executive Director of the Helena Education Foundation, says 48 local educators and high school seniors received recognitions of excellence at a banquet Monday night. The teachers were nominated by the students, and Dighans brought his computer science teacher Buffy Smith.
"This award is a great honor, because I've been working with my distinguished educator for the last four years to further develop my skills in computer science. When they told me about the award I was elated, because I knew I would be able to honor Mrs. Smith as well," said Dighans.
