Record Number of Business Owners File Online Annual Report in 2009

File a Business Entity Annual Report online today.HELENA – Secretary of State Linda McCulloch announced today that a record number of Foreign & Domestic Corporations and Limited Liability Companies (LLCs) filed online Annual Reports with the Secretary of State’s Office in 2009 – saving time, money and resources for businesses and state government.

“I’m committed to cutting costs without cutting corners,” Secretary McCulloch said.   “Our office has improved customer service and reduced waste.  All while increasing revenue for the state.”

More than 87,500 businesses filed their Annual Report online in 2009.  The new record shattered the previous record by nearly 5,000 online filings.

“Online services increase office productivity and make it easier for folks to do business in Montana,” Secretary McCulloch said.  “It’s a win-win customer service.”

Montana law requires Foreign and Domestic Corporations and LLCs to file an Annual Report with the Secretary of State’s Office.  Businesses that fail to file the report on an annual basis lose the authority to legally operate in Montana.

“This is the first time this office has successfully sent email alerts as a way to remind business owners to file their Annual Reports.  The alerts were immediate, inexpensive and they worked.  Without them, we likely would have lost more than twelve hundred businesses in Montana,” said Secretary McCulloch.

Secretary McCulloch sent email alerts to business service customers who were delinquent in filing their Annual Reports with the office.  Each alert notified the customer of the consequences associated with failing to file the Annual Report on time.
