JOHNSON VISITS TETON COUNTY

HELENA—Secretary of State Brad Johnson met with Teton County Clerk and Recorder Paula Jaconetty on Monday to discuss the upcoming Presidential election.

“Montana’s elections are among the cleanest, fairest, most efficient in the country,” Johnson said. “I want to hear from each clerk and administrator, regardless of political party and regardless of county size.”

The Secretary of State is Montana’s chief elections official, but county Clerks and Recorders and/or Election Administrators have the major responsibilities for running elections.

“Good elections are a team effort,” Johnson said. “In the Secretary of State’s office, we want to be a resource that the counties can call on to help solve problems. The only way we can do that is to communicate effectively with those running the elections.”

Johnson said individual visits with Clerks and Recorders are part of a major new communications initiative that also includes an e-mail discussion group for elections officials around Montana, regional training sessions for Election Administrators and Clerk and Recorders, on site training when requested, and a new help desk in the Secretary of State’s office to answer questions about the statewide voter registration database and other election issues.
