McCulloch Launches Enhanced Election Night Reporting Service;
New Site Features Immediate Election Results by County and Precinct Levels
HELENA - Secretary of State and Chief Elections Officer Linda McCulloch is pleased to provide a newly enhanced website for Montanans to view 2010 General Election results shortly after the polls close on Election Day.
"This is election night reporting at its best," McCulloch said. "For the first time in a General Election, Montanans can logon to our website and see immediate, comprehensive statewide election results as soon as counties start turning them in."
The Secretary of State's Election Night Reporting Service will be available beginning at 8:00 p.m. on the Secretary of State's homepage at sos.mt.gov.
The online tool provides election results by both county and precinct levels for each statewide or state district race and ballot measure included on the 2010 General Election ballot. Users can view all results, or build an individual tracking list to separately monitor races of interest.
The site also includes the percentage of precincts that have fully or partially reported results, interactive mapping features, possible recount races, and voter turnout.
"When voters can go online and see how their vote counted all the way down to the precinct level, it helps demonstrate just how important every vote is," McCulloch said. "This site is not only good for Montana voters, it provides the state's election officials a seamless transition from election results to official canvass."
The online service works in coordination with Montana's 56 Election Administrators. After the polls close on election night, results for statewide and state district contests are entered locally at each county elections office before being uploaded online for public viewership.
"Without the support and cooperation of the state's election officials, we wouldn't be able to provide this great public service," McCulloch said. "They continue to help ensure the quality of every Montana election."
The unofficial results from the November 2 General Election will be available to the public until the official canvass is certified later this month. Montanans can access the site from the Secretary of State's homepage at sos.mt.gov.
