May 20, 2009
(Helena) - Secretary of State Linda McCulloch today announced that a comprehensive list of the proposed statewide ballot issues for 2010 is now available on the Secretary of State's website at sos.mt.gov.
The list provides information about the sponsor and the status of each ballot issue received by the Office of the Secretary of State. Website users will also find helpful explanations regarding the ballot issue process and the laws that regulate signature gathering.
As of May 20, 2009, Secretary McCulloch has received the following ballot issues:
1. A proposed statutory initiative to revise laws related to the funding of hunter access programs. The petition was submitted to the Office on May 15, 2009 by Kurt Kephart of Billings, Montana.
2. A proposed constitutional initiative regarding the right to life. The petition was submitted to the Office on May 15, 2009 by Rick Jore of Ronan, Montana.
"Voters have a right to be included in the ballot issue process from the beginning. Ballot issues go through many stages including revisions and signature gatherings, and providing up-to-date information will help ensure that Montanans have the tools they need to make informed decisions when the time comes," said McCulloch.
"When I get an update, voters will get an update. I want to ensure that Montanans aren't caught off-guard when someone comes knocking on their door for a signature."
Secretary McCulloch urges all Montanans to log on to the website to find out more about the available information.
