Gallatin County Receives Federal HAVA Grant
(Helena) – Secretary of State Linda McCulloch recently awarded the following federal Help America Vote Act grant to Gallatin County:
- Gallatin County = $13,671.20 for AutoMark support and maintenance
“AutoMark machines are critically important to the elections process, as they allow people with disabilities and other special needs to vote privately and independently,” says McCulloch.
“The Gallatin County elections office greatly appreciates these funds, as the money will help us cover the cost of last year’s general election. We’re under a tight budget, so this grant really helps,” says Charlotte Mills, Elections Administrator for Gallatin County.
All 56 of the counties in Montana are eligible for the federal dollars, which stem from Montana’s portion of the Help America Vote Act. So far in 2009, 15 counties have received more than $90,000 in similar grants.
“Elections offices have accrued additional costs under the Help America Vote Act, and while these grants decrease budget deficiencies, more money is needed at both the state and the county level to properly fund Montana’s elections,” says McCulloch.
