Secretary Linda McCulloch Joins Read Across America

February 24, 2009

(Helena) - Secretary of State Linda McCulloch will share her favorite Dr. Seuss stories with students from Four Georgians Elementary School in Helena on Friday, February 27th from 9:00a.m. - 9:30 a.m.

The 11th Annual Read Across America is nationally celebrated on Dr. Seuss's birthday. The program focuses on motivating children to read and master basic literary skills.

"Dr. Seuss's books are educational, creative and down-right wacky," said McCulloch. "His stories encourage imagination and creative growth, and I can't think of a more entertaining way to celebrate literacy in our community."

Dr. Seuss is one of the most memorable children's authors of all time. While he may best be known for the titles "Green Eggs and Ham" and "The Cat in the Hat", Secretary McCulloch says she is a fan of the entire collection.

"These students have no idea what they are in for. I can quote Dr. Seuss all day!" joked McCulloch. "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go!"
