2008 Statewide Election Calendar
Elections will be held throughout the state in 2008 for the office of president and for a number of federal, state, and county offices and ballot issues. Click here for the complete official 2008 Statewide Election Calendar. In brief, below are some of the most important dates related to the 2008 statewide primary and general elections:
January 22: First day candidates may file a declaration of nomination with their local election office for county offices or with the Secretary of State for presidential, congressional, statewide, state district, and legislative offices.
March 20: Last day candidates may file a declaration of nomination or withdraw with their local election office for county offices or with the Secretary of State for presidential, congressional, statewide, state district, and legislative offices.
An application for an absentee ballot must be made during a period beginning on this date, 75 days before the primary election, and ending at noon the day before the election. Absent military and overseas electors are not subject to an earliest date to request absentee ballots.
May 5: Date of the close of regular voter registration for the June 3 primary election. NOTE: If you miss this deadline, you may still register under late registration procedures by showing up at the local election office up to and including on election day, filling out and submitting a voter registration card, and voting a ballot that you give to the election office staff.
PLEASE NOTE: Between noon and the close of business on the day before Election Day, you can drop off a late voter registration card, but you will need to return to the local election office on Election Day to pick up and vote a ballot.
June 3: STATEWIDE PRIMARY ELECTION.
