University of Illinois; Member of Drafting Committees for the Notary Public Code of Professional Responsibility, The Model Notary Act of 2002, and the Model Notary Act of 2009. He has authored or co-authored dozens of books, and law review articles, including The Case That There is a Common Law Duty of Notaries Public to Create and Preserve Detailed Journal Records of Their Official Acts, and Notary Law & Practice – Cases & Materials. His most recent book, PROFESSOR CLOSEN'S NOTARY BEST PRACTICES: EXPERT'S GUIDE TO NOTARIZATION OF DOCUMENTS (2018), will be released this spring. Professor Closen has been a consultant or expert witness in several cases involving notaries public, including the highly publicized case involving employer liability, Vancuris v. Katris. He will be presenting the seminars, “Notary Law & Ethics” (Parts 1 & 2) and together with Kathleen Butler, “Silence of the Laws”.
